CHRONIC BICKEROTOSIS
What a cruel irony it would be if,
of all the sinister diseases and viruses that plague the human species, it
turns out to Chronic Bickerotosis that finally wipes out all of us. The
recent fire in New York City that claimed the lives of several children, in
an apartment packed full of illegal immigrants, is yet another sign of the
fever that is gripping our nation. The arrest of several illegal workers at
a company in New Bedford, Mass., and the sight of families being separated
in the aftermath, left many of us feeling a little under the weather. These
two incidents being just another in a long string of mini-eruptions of
uncontrolled corners of American society.
In Florida last week, John Couey, the famed molester of 9 year old Jessica
Lundsford, and the sub-human who confessed to burying her alive while she
clutched her stuffed dolphin, was sentenced to a lifetime behind bars. The
three grotesques who aided him walked free. Thanks in large part to Bill
O'Reilly, her violent end led to a crusade to bring stiffer punishments to
those who prey on children. The movement swept the country and has at least,
though it is small consolation, lent legacy to her name and her sad demise.
The Council that has been charged with studying Global Warming will tomorrow
release a dire forecast. In spite of tangible evidence, such as nation-sized
chunks of ice that are melting before our eyes, most people still see this
as a political issue and point to natural cycles that have caused similar
occurrences and so, dismiss these warnings as vapid. I just saw a picture of
two Polar Bears, each standing on a tiny pinnacle of floating ice,
surrounded by ocean as far as one could see in every other direction.
Undoubtedly, their demise has already transpired as I write this now, and
besides, they're just Polar Bears, and that's a long way from where I live.
Across this great nation, our schools and family structure are crumbling as
we all bear witness, and Asian countries are surpassing us in intelligence
and industry. As a country, we are in debt up to our eyeballs and yet
continue to sing the praises of our "strong economy". Akin to the head of a
household taking a $50,000. advance from a credit card and then telling the
neighbors that he is rich. There is a common thread running through all of
these issues, tying them together, holding them loosely intact like a huge
porkroast. And I use the term "pork" deliberately.
In the last fifty or so years we have turned from a country that was the
envy of the world, to a country that is like the drunk uncle at a family
picnic. Tolerated by necessity, snickered at behind closed doors, and looked
upon with disdain in spite of the happy "hellos" and slaps on the back. We
have come from a time when we were the "can-do" society, leading the world
in industry, innovation, social mores and demonstrating vividly the vibrance
of a free society. We have become a country of chronic bickerers, unable to
tackle any problem effectively, unable to insitute change quickly and
effectively, and unable, or unwilling, to
secure ourselves. We have let the illegal immigration problem fester and
grow to a point where it is a crisis. We have allowed, for decades, hundreds
of thousands of people to flow in here, undocumented, to suck from our
economy and infrastructure without ever having donated to the cause. No need
for military service to your new country, no need to pay taxes, no need for
a driver's license, just come on in and take, take, take. Now we have the
audacity to complain and criticize people like John McCain, who at least has
provided a plan, whether you like the plan or not.
We have allowed the proliferation of child pornography on the internet,
protected it under the guise of "Free Speech", and now, like idiots, wonder
why are children are not safe to walk to the corner store. Like immigration,
why arrest people if we're not going to close the border? Why put child
molesters in prison if we're not going to stop the breeding ground which
creates more and more of them everyday? Anyone who wants to convince me that
our forefathers, when drafting the Constitution and Bill of Rights, had the
protection of child-rapists in mind, better be packing a lunch, because it's
going to be a long argument. And when it's finally people, not bears,
floating on a solitary sprig of ice in the middle of the Atlantic, perhaps
then we will have a consensus on whether or not man, with our huge
collective exhaust pipe, has done damage to our atmosphere.
It is sad, at least for me, to watch a Great Nation slowly become infirm. We
wait and wait and wait, bicker and bicker, and meanwhile...do nothing. Our
trademark has become "wait until it's too late". We address nothing before
it is a full-blown crisis, and then lament the cost, inconvenience and other
necessities of "the fix". I implore anyone who reads this to consider with
your greatest depth, the need for leadership and ideas that America needs
right now.
That plea assumes, naturally, that anyone reading this speaks English, isn't
busy fondling a five-year old and can add 2 + 2 and arrive at a correct
answer.
